Mount Aso
Mount Aso is an active volcano located in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. As one of the largest active volcanoes in the world, Mount Aso boasts a spectacular volcanic crater and a vast caldera plain.
Visitors can take a cable car to the edge of the crater, where they can admire the breathtaking volcanic landscape and overlook the entire caldera from observation decks. Additionally, the area around Mount Aso is home to many beautiful attractions and outdoor activities such as grasslands, hot springs, and hiking trails, attracting many tourists to explore and experience. Mount Aso is also an important cultural and religious site, considered one of Japan’s sacred places, attracting many pilgrims and believers to worship and pray.
Access
By Car
The best way to visit Mount Aso is to use private transport / sightseeing taxi in Fukuoka. KingTai Travel has lots of sightseeing taxi in Fukuoka with afforable price. But must pay 800 yen for the last kilometers, which is a toll road.
By Bus
The Nakadake Crater can be reached in a 30-40 minute bus ride from JR Aso Station.The one way trip costs 730 yen and is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass.
Buses travel as far as Asosan Sancho Terminal, from where a shuttle bus gets visitors to the crater (600 yen one way).
