The Great Buddha of Kamakura inTokyo

The Great Buddha of Kamakura is an iconic cultural heritage in Kamakura, Japan, and one of the most famous Buddhist statues in Japan. This massive bronze Buddha statue, located within the Kotokuin temple in Kamakura, is one of the most impressive pieces of Buddhist art in Japan’s modern history.

At approximately 13.35 meters (44 feet) tall and weighing 93 tons, the Great Buddha of Kamakura is one of the largest outdoor Buddhist statues in Japan. It represents Amitabha, a symbol of compassion and wisdom in Buddhism. The statue was built in 1252 and was originally located in a huge Buddhist temple, but it has been repeatedly affected by natural disasters, such as tsunamis and typhoons. Eventually, the temple was destroyed by an earthquake in 1498, but the Great Buddha of Kamakura survived and is displayed outdoors.

Visitors can go inside the Kamakura Daibutsu to explore its structure and history while admiring the spectacular outdoor statues. There are also beautiful gardens and courtyards surrounding it, adding to the peaceful atmosphere.
