Nusamai Bridge

Nusamai Bridge is located in Kushiro City, on the eastern side of Hokkaido, Japan. It is a historic bridge spanning the Kushiro River and is one of the most iconic tourist attractions in the area. The bridge is renowned for its elegant design, the changing natural scenery of the four seasons, and its breathtaking sunset views, which are considered one of Japan’s top 100 sunset spots. It is a romantic landmark, cherished by couples, photography enthusiasts, and travelers alike.

Originally built in 1900, the current Nusamai Bridge is the fifth-generation structure, completed in 1976. It spans 124 meters and connects the center of Kushiro City with the port area. At both ends of the bridge are five female statues designed by a renowned sculptor, representing the four seasons and the wind, blending art and nature beautifully. At dusk, visitors can enjoy the view of the sunset over Kushiro Port, with the golden hues reflecting on the flowing river and distant port lights, creating a romantic atmosphere, making it one of the few places in Hokkaido where one can experience the charm of a port city.

In the evening, Nusamai Bridge is illuminated, and its reflection on the water creates a stunning, magical view, making it an especially perfect spot for couples to take photos.
