Fort Goryokaku
Fort Goryokaku, situated in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan, is a historic and unique star-shaped fortress that holds significant cultural and architectural importance. Originally constructed in the 19th century, it is known for its distinctive pentagonal shape, which was an innovative design at the time and served both military and strategic purposes.
Goryokaku played a significant role in Japanese history as the site of a famous battle during the Boshin War in 1869. Today, it has been transformed into a beautiful public park where visitors can explore its well-preserved ramparts, moats, and historical buildings. Cherry blossoms adorn the park in spring, creating a stunning sight during the cherry blossom season when the entire fort is enveloped in pink blooms.
